Christine's interest in all
things textile stems from her family, where knitting, dressmaking
and soft furnishings were part of normal life. Embarking on
and completing a City and Guilds Embroidery and Design course
at Swansea College proved to be the environment that allowed
Christine to realise her flair for stitch, and where fabric
and thread took on a whole new creative meaning.
Christine's embroidery work is influenced by her surroundings,
which she integrates with her love of music and history to
produce emotive abstract images. |
“My inspiration comes from my environment,
where, while living in Pembrokeshire I found myself surrounded
by inspirational source material, from a heritage of castles
and coast, sandy beaches, rocky shores and cliffs to ancient
woodlands and breathtaking landscapes; with a visual impact
of colour, texture and line that is unlimited.
My surroundings
now are the undulating Somerset levels and the Mendips, inspirational
in a different way, yet like Pembrokeshire there is a sense
of time and place, and the sea, an element that is a constant
for me.
My work comes from within. I need to be emotionally engaged
in whatever the subject matter before I am able to start
a piece.
My love of music dictates the rhythm or harmony. Sometimes
symbolism may be used in imagery or colour.”
